Newsletter August 2023.

New VAT rate from 2024.

As of 1 January 2024, the new VAT rate of 8.1% will apply to all tickets.

However, VAT for individual travelcards will be charged according to the period of their validity. Two separate VAT rates will be applied to travelcards with an overlapping validity from 2023 into 2024. You can identify the points that belong together on the invoice by the identical file number. Details of the services can be found in the statistics provided in the Businessmanager.

Example: the revenue from a travelcard valid from 1 October 2023 until 30 September 2024 will be charged and taxed at the rate of 7.7% for one quarter (1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023) and 8.1% for three quarters (1 January 2024 to 30 September 2024).

To view the validity of travelcards and the apportioned VAT amount, you can create a VAT statement in Businessmanager on a quarterly basis.

Discover the new digital world of vouchers.

The voucher and Rail Check solutions you are already familiar with will be replaced in the coming months.

Rail Checks.

Rail Checks with a pay-later option (paid after redeeming) will remain available with a validity up until max. 9 December 2023.

Between autumn and the start of winter 2023, we will introduce the successor product, the “coupon”, as a pay-later solution. The successor solution offers various advantages. Without a doubt, the biggest benefits are the digital delivery to your company, the digital redistribution to travellers and the option to redeem on SBB.ch or in the SBB Mobile app. Certain services that you can finance with a coupon will only be available at the counter during the initial phase (e.g. personalised coupons). We are working on solutions to ensure that the coupons can be redeemed digitally throughout the process in the future. We will inform you about the exact ordering process at a later date.

The current promotional code will also be replaced and improved by the coupon.

E-vouchers and gift cards.

The successor product to the pay-before solutions is the voucher, which can be redeemed digitally on SBB.ch and in the SBB Mobile app or physically at the counter. Its introduction is planned for the beginning of 2024.

The current gift cards remain available until the end of 2023 and you can continue to use them for your purchases into the future. Gift cards are valid for two years. We recommend that you exchange the remaining amount for the successor product if you want to use part of the gift voucher from 2024 onwards.

You can still redeem e-vouchers via the usual processes up until 9 December 2023. To redeem e-vouchers after this date, we expect that you will able to exchange any current e-vouchers on an online platform.
