Checking in is mandatory on all regional services in Italy as of the end of 2023.
Check-in on the Trenitalia customer portal must be carried out separately for each person. The link to the Trenitalia customer portal can be found on the PDF ticket or in the SBB profile by the relevant order.
Here’s how it works.
Check in for the regional train of your choice on the Trenitalia customer portal on the day of travel (at least five minutes before the train is scheduled to depart).
After check-in, you will receive a QR code which must be shown together with your ID and the ID cards of any other people travelling with you during the ticket inspection.
In addition to check-in, the travel date (up to one day before the journey) and the departure time (five minutes before the scheduled train departure) can be adjusted in the Trenitalia customer portal.
Important: tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged after check-in.
